I was lucky enough to have grown up surfing Whale beach, in Sydney’s northern beaches.

At age 5 I caught my first wave, and have been hooked on surfing ever since.

My gravitation towards the ocean led to my first job at a marina, maintaining boats, hull design and fibre glassing, followed by a stint working as an apprentice carpenter.

Throughout these early years, i discovered a talent and passion for building and creating with my hands, and a fascination for hydrodynamics and laminar flow.

Around age 18 I shaped and sanded my first surfboard. It must have turned out ok (for a first attempt) because that first board led to a fulltime job offer as a surfboard sander for Sydney’s leading glassing company, The Laminator.

Over the next few years I learned every aspect of board production, as well as sanding thousands of boards for various brands such as- Webber, Channel islands, …Lost, Simon Anderson, LSD, and Xanadu, to name a few.

After hours I would sneak into an empty shaping bay and work the night away hand shaping boards, gradually understanding and replicating the beautiful curves I was so heavily influenced by during the day’s sanding.

My shaping talent soon caught the eye of Luke Short (LSD Surfboards) who offered me a full time job shaping. Jumping at the chance, i was soon hand shaping countless custom and stock boards for Australia, Japan and Europe, under the LSD label, all the time gaining invaluable knowledge and experience.

A year or so later I started shaping for Webber surfboards as well, forming a close working relationship with Greg Webber, a creative genius at the forefront of surfboard design, drawing inspiration from Greg, and continually refining my shapes.

Following shaping stints in WA and Lennox head, I moved back to Sydney’s northern beaches, and set up Annesley surfboards in a state of the art surfboard factory.

Due to my focus and well over a decade of shaping experience, I feel I am able to understand and create shapes to suit everyone.

Every Annesley surfboard is designed and shaped by me personally, typically other shapers reserve this service for pro’s, or the elite lucky few.

Although I enjoy shaping boards for some of the world’s most talented surfers, their feedback constantly pushing me to respond to the highest demands of performance surfing, my goal is to bring my innovation, determination and communication to you, the surfer. 

Through working one on one with you, that magic shape that will take you to the next level is now a reality.
